Print to File, then run command

I would like to setup a printer in Linux (RHEL 4) that will generate a postscript file and pass it to another application as an argument. Sounds easy but I haven't the slightest idea where to start!

This is all part of a faxing workflow. I have a Fax front end application for Hylafax that accepts PS files as an argument:

# /usr/local/bin/faxfrontend myfile.ps

This will pop up a windows that allows the user to select a fax number from a rolodex and send the fax.

Is something like this possible??? I need it to be accessible from OpenOffice and PDFViewer. Thanks in advance.

PS: Conversely, if anyone has any experience with setting up faxfrontend, then perhaps you could hekp me get fax4cups working properly as a printer so I can print directly to that.

Thanks!!

The printer is not necessary unless printing an incoming fax. Outgoing doesn't require the printer, because it isn't the printer that generates the postscript file. It just prints it (on paper).

You need two things:
(a) an application to generate the ps file.
(b) an application to take that file as input.

You have (b) covered with faxfrontend. Now you need (a).

There are a number of tools available to convert several file types to ps. To see what you have currently installed on your system, in a console run 'apropos postscript'.
