Presumable problems with /usr on separate partition

I've found an interesting opinion about having /usr on separate partition. What problems can I get in fact on Gentoo with /usr placed on separate partition? Are they frequent and serious? Are there some workarounds for those problems? As far as I know many people have /usr on partition different than root. I don't think that all these people don't use D-Bus, ALSA, etc.

/usr issue

The article is correct. What they fail to mention is the activities of udev are really the issue. Since udev is somewhat blunt about it's job the easiest thing to do is to merge / and /usr partitions. No harm should come if you are able to place /usr on the same partition as /.

Of course you could always look into having udev behave differently :-^)

Best I can do
