Port mapper failure?

Hi, I've been having trouble for some time now and I've tried everything and don't know what I can do to try and get to source of the problem...

The problem looks like it might be the port mapper but I'm not sure? This is the error message I get when trying to contact the suse ftp server.

Could not mount the source medium.
mount: RPC: Port mapper failure - RPC: Unable to receive

I don't know if it's related but I have trouble accessing ftp files from my windows systems to?

Port mapper is running as default on port 111, I've stpped the service and still got the same error as when it is running

Anyone have any ideas?
