phpBB help??

Hey guys..I've been helping a good friend of mine get a phpBB set up and working... it's going pretty good except for a problem with replies. Everything works well, the hoster is www.hostwerks.com and they're running a cobalt raq linux.

So everything works fine except for occasionally.. login lags a lot and then says page cannot be found... and also,90% of the time, we get terrible lag in replying to posts...but if you click the banner or whatever... the post does indeed go through... any ideas??

If needed, you can visit the site at:

www.wormwoodchronicles.com/wormboard

PHP info: www.wormwoodchronicles.com/phpinfo.php

I know that the webhost is a little lax on updating php... i was wondering if that might be an issue..

It depends on a lot of things. For starters, do they provide dedicated hosting, or is that site on box that is shared with other sites? If it's shared, it could be getting too many hits and the disk(s) could be bogging down. I have an old box that has MySQL and a forums running on it, and if it gets hit hard it lags bad.

Might want to get the hardware specs on it, or if you have them, post them here so others can see and compare to their setup. That and give examples of the lag you're mentioning.

For instance I've seen InvisionPowerBoard give MySQL/PHP script processing stats at the bottom of the pages that are generated. That kind of info might help.

I just took a look at the site and it ran pretty quick for me. There is another error I've seen, though it may not be related (i didn't see this error on that site).

When the SMTP server specified is down, IPB will complain (I know this is phpBB, and not IPB) about not being able to send an email, but will still make the posting.

Perhaps you have an email server that is really slow? After all, member subscriptions to threads might be pretty hefty in areas.
