partitions

my gentoo linux is up and running, but I need more space ;-).

my question: is it possible to create a new partition and mount is as /usr? (at the moment I only have 2 partitions /boot (100Mb) and / (3Gb))

well yes, if you take the time to look around the site and use the search features, you'll find a load of identical threads.

uhm the page I found suggests to first move the folder (/usr in my case) and then copy it back to the newly mounted partition... isn't it more logical to move it back?

That's what I'm planning to do anyways...

I mount my new partition as /usr, I thought the easiest thing to do would be to "mv /oldusr/* /usr". I tried this with a testmap:

#mv /test / /oldtest
#mkdir /test
#mount /test
#mv /oldtest/* /test
-> here I get an error "mv keeping permissions: invalid argument"

and doesn't moves anything

Any suggestions?
