Partition resizing witout loosing data?

I am looking for a safe way of moving the boarder between two neighbouring partitions. The distro is RH 8.0 and the fs is ext3. As I do not fancy reinstalling the whole lot I am looking for a method/tool that will not destroy the data on the partitions involved. It's a bare server, without X, so it will have to be a command line tool. Is it safe to use fdisk?

GNU parted

http://www.gnu.org/software/parted/parted.html

read the documentation.
fdisk won't resize. Depending on what you want to do, you can resize with parted and create a new partition with fdisk using the new free space.
