Outgoing Email Alias?

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if there is a way to alias an outgoing email? I hope I'm saying it right, but here is what I want.

I'm using sendmail for now. I want all emails being sent to dummy@email.com to go to smartguy@nowhere.com instead. This is for outgoing email, not incomming.

If anyone can help it is greatly appreciated.

So you mean that, when you send an email to dummy@email.com it actually sends to smartguy@nowhere.com? Is sendmail configured to handle both email.com and nowhere.com? Have you looked into using local or sendmail aliases?

Actually email.com and nowhere.com are both external mail servers. Let's assume my email server is source.com. When I send email from source.com to dummy@email.com I want my email server to rewrite the TO address as smartguy@nowhere.com.

Code:
echo hello | mail -s test dummy@email.com
I'd like the previous command to send mail to smartguy@nowhere.com.

Thanks,

Yes you can do that using generics for both sendmail and postfix, as well as address rewriting for exim
