OpenOffice Calc question - copy and paste an image filename only

Hello Everyone,

Wasn't sure where to post this, but I know there are a lot of experts in OpenOffice here, so I though I would give it a shot here.

I am trying to export data from from one database to another and the import to the new database must be from Excel spreadsheets. Calc works fine for this. The format of my spreadsheet is something like this:

Product Code Picture

Product code is the stock number of the item. Picture is obviously a picture of the item. I have all of the images in a folder and can list them in file view. This a large list (several hundred), and what I want to do is copy and paste JUST THE FILENAMES in the Product Code column, then the path-to-the-image-file in the Picture column. I have checked the OOo forums and found nothing. There were some close threads in an excel forum, but still not quite what I needed.

Are there any spreadsheet gurus who might know how I can do this. So far, select-all, copy/paste doesn't work because obivously you can't paste an in the column.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bob

Edit -- got help in the Slack forum and a couple little scripts did the trick.

ls -1 (that is a one, not a L) will display a single column output
Code:
fortyfourgalena@desktop1:~$ ls -1 *.txt
botswana2008_web.txt
cv_wim_sturkenboom.txt
gumtree.txt
jade_email.txt
junkmail.txt
louwretta_ok.txt
louwretta_spam.txt
myfile.txt
nathan_email.txt
ups.txt
fortyfourgalena@desktop1:~$
You can redirect it into a file and read that file in Calc; or you can directly copy-and-paste it into Calc.

Your requirements are not 100% clear so I hope it puts you on the right track.

Thank you, that indeed is what I found that worked. Should have already known that with all the years I have used Linux.

Thanks for the help.

Bob
