OOOOOPS! I can't even boot linux

I was trying to install an older version of libc.so. in my /lib directory. I was trying to create a soft link named libc.so.6 to a file a put in the /lib directory called libc-2.2.4.so. I copied this file from a red hat 7.2 installation. the /lib directory I copied it into is from a red hat 8.0 installation. I did something screwy and now when I try to boot up my box, I get:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6:libc.so.
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
Kernel Panic: Attemmpted to kill init!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
It will not boot past the message. Is there any way to fix it without reloading linux from scratch? No, stupid me did not make a boot disk on install. I don't know if it would help anyway.

Thanks,

--Paul

Try booting from your rescue CD, mounting your / partition and removing the link/file.

Oops, forgot to mention, if you don't have a specific rescue CD, you can boot from your installation CD into rescue mode too.

Thanks for the tip! I was able to use rescue mode on the install disk to solve the problem.
