no question - just positive comments

Looked around for the best place to put this but didn't see a Linux bragging forum. Admin can move this to a better place if needed.

I registered here on my birthday in 2006. I have learned a little since then. I still feel like a newbie. I am self taught about computers and will never be an expert. I will be 71 years old this year. I distro hopped for a long time and still have several distros installed on three desktops and one laptop. Lately, I keep looking at the distros as they are announced but haven't done much distro hopping lately.

My main Linux distro that I use on a daily basis is PCLOS KDE. I have had Chrunchbang installed on my laptop for a while now. They just work. I have messed things up a few times and have had great sucess finding a solution by going to forums. Of course I keep some Windows around - XP and 7.

I am just so glad that I took the plunge in 2006 and started trying Linux. I feel sorry for the people that have never ventured away from Windows or Mac.

Maybe it should go in the member intro forum?

Also, now it's off the zero reply list.

Keep it up! You've been at it a lot longer than I have, and I wish I'd have discovered it sooner!

Glad you've had some great experiences. I'm happy for people to try Linux; however feel perfectly fine if they have no complaints on their own. Most people do care if something works and works well; however they may also use a computer infrequently and really don't care to get too technical. Plus these days there are other resources like tablets and phones which will give a user connectivity that they may not care to have a full up system, and nor do they care that Android is Linux based or if it were based off of something else.

It is clear to me that those who choose to invest their time in Linux, generally find it to be entertaining, useful, and overall a good experience.

The thread can remain in <Linux-General> since the original post is Linux related.

As a 52 year-old self-taught, I'm happy to say that Linux has improved my life more than I would have thought possible. I was so SICK of Windows?MS and all of it's BS; switched to linux 4 years ago; and now my computing life is so much more pleasant/less aggravating!

Also, the opportunity to learn something new and interesting; something that I am excited about, has been a welcome attribute. It's rare when we get older, to find things that are new and interesting; and which motivate us to learn new things...but I'm devouring this Linux stuff!

Summer of 2013, a friend gave me a Lubuntu liveCD for a computer that another friend gave me without an HDD. I kind of played with it, and setup Ubuntu Server on the computer. My uncle gave me a Windows 8 laptop for Christmas, and after several mobo replacements, it finally worked, but I couldn't really get over it. So I learned Linux really quick.

My server runs Debian now, and my Win8 laptop currently runs Arch, though I'm thinking about switching it to Debian as well.

I was just dabbling in Linux until MS announced they would no longer support Windows XP. Then I got serious and started replacing XP with Linux (but still have one computer running Windows Vista). No major problems so far, and no regrets.
