newbie Questions

I've nearly finished building my computer, i'm looking to buying a laptop after this. Which operating systems would you suggest that i use? with the idea of me networking the two, the computer will be on the internet 24/7 and will be used for hosting websites etc. I was thinking of using Windows 2k/server on the laptop and using a linux distro on the computer.
but i haven't decided yet.

Which would you think?

Do you really think someone on a Linux forum would tell you to install a Win2K server?
Linux all the way!

I'm going to use win2k mainly because it will allow me to play with visual basic where as i've been told linux doesn't.

thats becuase visual basic is basicly crap, , linux aint for crapy stuff, its made to work, but why do you want visual basic anyway? surly c/c++, or java, or perl, or any of the other 10000 languages can suit your needs in a better, more eficaint manner, and save space and reasources

C++ is super easy, just get a C++ for dummies, and you'll kick it off quite fast !
it's all about the cin> and cout>

And...I suggest you double boot your laptop. I also recommend you getting a laptop which on a general basis are more compatible with Linux, you can choose from Toshiba and Fujitsu, generally you have less problem with these two than per say Compaq, Dell, HP, etc...

Have fun,
