netflix 'watch now' - watch streaming movies on my pc

hi, i dont know if there are any netflixers here... :

i wrote an email to netflix asking when linux support for their 'watch now' service will be available.

when i click on that link in firefox i see this page:
Code:
Minimum Requirements

    * Computer running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or higher, or Windows Vista
    * Internet Explorer version 6 or higher
    * Windows Media Player version 10 or higher
    * An active broadband connection to the Internet
    * 1.0 GHz processor
    * 512 MB RAM
    * 3 GB free hard disk drive space
i also get that error using konqueror and identifying as ie6 on windows xp.

i rebooted to my win-2k drive and got the same error.

the biggest part of the problem seems to be that windows media player 10 is required (the highest version available for win-2k is 9)

is there any hope or am i sol ?

thanks,

try installing wmp 10.x under wine and see what happens.

i doubt it will work due to the fact that wmp 10.x has loads of DRM built into it and has tons of tracking information that file senders can pull from the users system without them knowing about it.

thx lleb, i am having problems with the wmp10 install in wine (it exits with an error).

i tried to play the url in xine but i get this error:
The source seems encrypted, and cannot be read (Media Stream scrambled/encrypted)

is there a way to add drm functionality to xine ?
i dont want to circumvent drm, but i would like to play these movies that i paid for.

i installed mplayer on knoppix live-cd.

it seems to try to play something (i see a scrambled box with no sound) so the player thinks it is playing something because the stream information scrolls thru the kterm window. so it seems to get farthur than xine.

does anyone know how to force it to make it ask for a certificate ?

anybody have experience with vlc ?

thanks,
