Need help with CD-RW..

I have Mandrake8.1 but it dosent recognise my CD-RW.
I have a DVD rom & my CD-RW on the same IDE cable.
When I cd to /mnt I can see the CD-RW but I cant access it.
If I use xcdroast it can see the CD-RW but it think's it's empty even when it's not. I also have cdrecord installed.
The CD-RW isnt SCSI by the way.

Can anyone tell me what file's I should be checking here ??
Thanks in advance.

You will probably want to check that your /etc/fstab file has the appropriate permissions.

You also need to pass an option to the kernel when it boots telling it to use scsi emulation for the CD-RW, in lilo you add -- append = "hd*=ide-scsi" -- to lilo.conf and run lilo to update.

Thanks for the replys.
I went home & booted Linux up & ended up having to re-install :smash:

I think the problem waswith the CD-Rw was I had to add, like you said Aussie "hd*=ide_scsi" to lilo.conf

P.S The reason I had to reinstall was unrelated to any of my post's
