What version of Mandrake are you trying to install? Are you doing it from cds?

Are you booting from the cd? What speed is the cdrom drive? Is it fast enough?

It might be possible, that the iso hasn't been burned right into the cd.
Is the cd self-burned? By you, or a friend.. If is, download the cd image again,
and burnit intoa cd, and try again. If it fails AGAIN, there's something wrong with
your box..

Check that APIC is enabled in the BIOS or use noapic. Had this problem because it was disabled.
