named service not starting

Hi,

Named service is not starting,i copied the script from another computer which is running with named service but still did not work.

#chkconfig --list named --shows named on in all the runlevels

Output while starting the service,

root@support2 ~]# service named start
[root@support2 ~]#

[root@support2 ~]# /etc/init.d/named start
[root@support2 ~]#

I have checked the process and named is not running

please advise.

Thanks,
Santhosh

You probably have an error in the configuration file or a zone file that is preventing named from starting. Check the logs for named entries. You can use named-checkconf to help find errors in named.conf, and named-checkzone to pinpoint errors in a trouble zone file.

As long as this is in "Linux - General", how about mentioning your distro. Neither of my MEPIS installs (3.3.2 & 6.0) has
chkconfig. How am I supposed to guess what you're using?

Also, please put code in "Code" blocks -- I can't tell if
"#chkconfig --list named --shows named on in all the runlevels"
means:
Code:
#chkconfig --list named --shows named on in all the runlevels
or, more likely:

Code:
#chkconfig --list named
--shows named on in all the runlevels

If you want good answers, ask your Q's clearly.
