My mouse's cursor has started going invisible in X

A few days ago the mouse cursor started going invisible in X. It still exists: I can 'choose' whatever it's on, I can mark a portion of the screen. It's invisible in Firefox, an xterm, Acrobat - any app I've tried. I'll switch to an xterm and move it around for a few seconds until it reappears. It works properly outside of X. I upgrade the kernel every new (stable) version, check for updates to Slackware daily, can't think of anything unusual I've done.

Not in slackware, but I had this happen to me when I had my video rendering set to use EGL instead of XGL using an Intel gpu.

How does one set 'video rendering'? I don't see it in /etc/X11/xorg.conf or its inclusions.

I already know I have an Intel GPU; I don't know how to specify EGL/XGL

If you're using KDE, it's in the control panel for KDE. Not sure how it would be set for anything else, since KDE is my preferred DE.

how fortunate that you deigned to share that knowledge with us, your humble servants!

neither do i.

however, a quick search for your symptoms lead me to this and the suggestion to use a newer kernel.

if that doesn't help, we will really need a little more cooperation from you.

There's a ton of stuff to know. Instead of flooding my post with everything possible I anticipated questions that would ask for relevant info.

I update my kernel every version change.
