Mp3 and thumb drive

I can't get some mp3's off you tube to play on my thumb drive in my car stereos. I have been checking to make sure they'll play in VLC and they all do. It's strange, some that I transferred from my Windows systems, wma's, play but not all mp3 and mp4. What am I missing? Some are very old songs that I doubt have some sort of encryption in them.

Many car stereos have limitations not found with desktop computers which may or may not be documented in the manuals.

It could be your stereo has problems with bit rate or VBR or extended ID tags or filename length problems or number of nested directories or number of files. Compare the ones that work vs don't work.
