I would like to move my /home to an empty unmounted partition. I am using the latest Mandriva software. The partition that /home is in is 92% full.
Right now my /home is in the / directory. If I use Mandriva's partition software and simply tell it to mount the empty partition at /home or even /home/jon, which is my personal directory, will the files be moved to the new partition safely without fouling anything up, leaving my / reduced in size?
Does your empty partition have a filesystem? You will need to create one if not. Then you need to COPY your /home over to the new partition. Rename your existing /home to /home.old or something like that. Then mount the new partition to /home. Once everything tests out as OK, you can delete /home.old, freeing up space on your / filesystem.
