Thumbs up moving files from one box to another

Good day.. I am new to Mandrake 9.1. I have a new web server ready to go but I need to move all the html pages from a old web server 7.3 redhat box to my new mandrake 9.1 box. Is there a way to move the intire folder to the new box? Thank you for you help

you can do it graphically over a samba network, as long as you are on the same LAN. Mandrake and RH both automatically configure samba and look for network connections throughout the LAN. From there, just log in to the box and drag-n-drop.

I only recommend the GUI route because it is infinetly easier and less confusing for the linux newb.

Samba is for moving files from a Windows machine to a Linux or Unix based machine.

More likely you want to either setup NFS to move the files or maybe use rcp, remote file copy.

man nfs
man rcp

anywho, if you don't feel like setting up nfs, then you could do it the quick way with ftp.

Yep that's my method of choice. I use it anytime I need to move files around on my network. For security reasons I always disable the ftp daemon on my boxes.

The cool thing about scp is that the syntax is similar to cp
