What are you specifically using for mount? Slackware automatically detects your CD-ROM drives (or at least attempts to) so if done correctly you just have to type:
Code:
mount /mnt/cdrom
Notice that only root can do this at first. For other users to be able to mount stuff you'll have to edit your /etc/fstab (search LQ for this).

To list the contents of a CD-ROM, type:
Code:
ls -l /mnt/cdrom
To unmount a CD-ROM you'll have to not be in /mnt/cdrom and no processes can be using anything or writing to anything in /mnt/cdrom. Type:
Code:
umount /mnt/cdrom
or better yet:
Code:
eject /mnt/cdrom
