Mounting CF, no-luck

Can anyone answer the following questions?

I have installed everything as instructed, but not able to mount CF yet. Here is what I did and I see CF is there. The CF is 16MB from Canon.

[root@localhost etc]# cdrecord -scanbus
Cdrecord 2.0 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 J?rg Schilling
Linux sg driver version: 3.1.24
Using libscg version 'schily-0.7'
cdrecord: Warning: using inofficial libscg transport code version (schily - Red Hat-scsi-linux-sg.c-1.75-RH '@(#)scsi-linux-sg.c 1.75 02/10/21 Copyright 1997 J. Schilling').

[root@localhost etc]# mount /dev/sda /mnt/CF
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
[root@localhost etc]# mount /dev/sda -t vfat /mnt/CF
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sda,
or too many mounted file systems
[root@localhost etc]# mkfs -t vfat /dev/sda
bash: mkfs: command not found
[root@localhost etc]# /sbin/mkfs -t vfat /dev/sda
mkfs.vfat 2.8 (28 Feb 2001)
mkfs.vfat: Will not try to make filesystem on '/dev/sda'
[root@localhost etc]# /sbin/mkdosfs -F 16 /dev/sda
mkdosfs 2.8 (28 Feb 2001)
mkdosfs: Will not try to make filesystem on '/dev/sda'

As you can see the above, it doesn't allow me to format as well.. I don't know what is going on.. If you can help me, I would really appreciate it. Thanks, guys..

Yes, you are right. It works that way. I don't know why, but I am happy as long as it works.
