I downloaded a copy of MEPIS 8 today, and later noticed that one of the right-click options for it is "mount (as root) iso to /mnt/tmp." What would that do?
it would do what it says, mount the iso filesystem on /mnt/tmp asif it were a physical DVD. It's pretty darn well explained for just 7 words I'd have thought.
Humor me, good sir. I've used Linux on and off for six years, but still have a newbie's understanding of many things. But I think my question skipped a step. I understood, if vaguely, what the command would do. What I really don't understand is why I would want to mount the iso filesystem of a liveCD as though it were a physical CD or DVD, from inside the distro that I'm already running. I don't understand what I could accomplish.

So that you can access the files without having to burn the image? This may not be something you want to do with this particular image, but obviously you can mount other images and access the files if you need to.
