mime types

Hi

I know that the solution to this should be rather simple but for some reason I just can't find out what to do and it's starting to drive me crazy.

I'm using Debian/Kanotix and KDE 3.3.

I double click .mp3 files and xine opens up playing them. I want xmms to start instead, so I add that to the file association section in Control Center, under mp3. but for some reason "xmms" dissappears from the list next time I check the file associations.

I noticed that mplayer can play *.img-files that are rips of DVDs. But KDE insists on opening those files with a text-editor. I add the extension in control panel/file associations. But alas! they are still opened with a text editor.

I guess one solution would be to turn off mime and let KDE just follow file-extensions. But how that should be carried remains a mystery throughout linuxquestions.org

Thanks in advance.

I use KDE 3.3 on FC2 and just tried to modify some file associations, worked like a charm.
One thing I noticed in the past is that you have to click on '"apply" for every change you make, it doesn't work if you make multiple changes and then click "apply" only once before you close the control center.

Thanks for the tip (applying each change). I'd already tried that though, but to no avail...
