Cool messed up harddrive, now what?

OK, so I am (was) dual booting Windows XP Pro and Mandrake 10.0. The Windows partition needed more space, so I told Partition Magic to resize the linux partition (I had previously given most of the space to linux). But in the middle of resizing, PM says there is an error with an inode or whatnot. PM reboots the computer, but the only thing I could get was a GRUB command line. I had no idea how to load Windows or Linux back again. I used a Windows 98 boot disk to run Win98 setup. It installed fine. Now when I boot the comp, I get a prompt asking if I want to load Windows XP or Windows 98. I have complete access to the Windows partition (its like nothing ever happened) So basically I have three questions:

(1) How can I uninstall Win98 (i just want to run XP)? Xp is installed to C:\Windows and 98 is installed at C:\Windows.000
(2) How can I get access to my linux partition again (assuming its even possible).
(3) I still need to resize my linux partition. Should I try using PM again?

Thx.

It seems that the Win98 install just put the folders into your existing XP install. This is good in a way as that would also indicate that you didn't actually repartition anything.
Boot up into XP and
Right click on My Computer / Properties
Advanced Tab
Startup and Recovery
Uncheck the box labeled "Display list of operating systems.... "
Or you could unhide the protected system files and edit the boot.ini

That should get rid of the Win98 / XP choices menu.
Try it to be sure.

To get linux back, if the partition is still intack, you should be able to boot up with cdrom1 and go into rescue mode.
If the linux partition is messed up, you may end up re-installing it. I would go ahead and resize the windows partition as you wanted to before hand.
To resize the windows using PM, you need to run scandisk first.

I don't have the CDs, I did a network installation. Is there any other way I can get into rescue mode?

I ran scandisk from the Windows partition, and it did not detect any errors. You dont think the same thing will happen again?

If you don't have a valid linux partition, maybe you could use PM to delete it then resize the windows partition to what you want. After you get the windows partition resized, then install linux.
The problem may have occured if you tried to resize the left ( beginning ) part of the linux partition.

Here is what PM is telling me my harddrive looks like now:

Disk C: - 14 gigs
Unallocated - 5.5 gigs
Linux partition #1 - 9 gigs
Linux partition #2 - 10 gigs
Swap - .5 gig

I had told PM to resize one of the linux partitions and give the free space to drive C. From above, I'm guessing it started resizing then hit an error and left part of the disc unallocated. Is there any way I could access the data on the Linux partitions? Is there any way to undo what I did? Will giving back the unallocated space to linux help?

Also, PM won't let me resize Linux partition #1 anymore (which is the partition I was originally resizing). It will not let me use the "Check partition for errors" tool, either.

I did not know why, but then I downloaded Paragon Ext2FS trial version (in an attempt to access my files), and Ext2FS is telling me that Linux partition #1 is not formatted.

update: I can access the files in my second linux partition using explor2fs. What I need help on is accessing the data in my first partition. Is there any way to restore it?
