Hello all,
Recently I installed Mandrake Linux 8.1 on my AMD 500 machine, And it is being slow, really slow. I have a GeForce2 MX-400 AGP 64mb, a Realtec 10/100 nic card, Analog Devices ad1816 sound card, 128 mb of dimms ram, a ps/2 mouse and keyboard, and a 6 year old HP monitor. When I got linux installed, I started X (KDE) and when it finally started, like it would respond way to slow when I typed or clicked on something. (NOTE: This is only in X) I know that my computer is not slow or anything, because it runs gh3y windoze just fine. I wanted to have Linux back on my computer because I just hate supporting a skinny, geeky guy with taped glasses. Another reason I wanted Linux back on my system, Is that I want to run Half-Life with the Wine windoze emulator. Also, another problem I have, is that whenever I try to install Slackware 8.0, the setup program hangs when it installs package "d" which is the development package. The only possible thing that I think it could be is my hard-drive is ultra-slow (2 gigs *sigh*) or, my video card needs new drivers.
I appreciate you time and consideration.
