"all LQ users" would never agree on ANYTHING!!
The LAST thing that any LQ users would agree on is choice of distro.

The technically correct answer is "no".
The useful answer is try it for yourself.
The question you could have asked is: "What are some good things to consider when picking a Linux distro?"

All of the LQers who have used both SuSE 10 and Mandriva won't agree either.

It's purely a matter of personal preference. If you want to try Mandriva by all means do it It can't hurt. (though I would suggest NOT subscribing to their paid support service. as it took me 4 months and a few lawyer calls to get them to cancel my subscription)

I use both distros regularly and I think both are very good. The best thing to do is try them both and stick with the one you like.

Erm, for my worth I have tried both as well. Personal preference is for Mandriva, I found it generally easier to set up, with less hassle setting up repositories/mirrors for updates etc. SuSE is good, don't get me wrong, I just felt more "at home" with Mandriva.

Why not download and burn both, and see what you prefer. I just happen to use boxed set DVD from Mandriva. It has all those possibly inconvenient things (nvidia driver etc) already pre-configured and IMO is very suited to those who don't have much in the way of linux experience.

As they say on the game shows, "the choice is yours"!

Good luck, whichever you decide on.

regards

John
