Mandrake 9.2 hangs after 15-30 mins??

Hi

I have just installed Mandrake 9.2. All seems to work fine, but then the pc freezes after 15 minutes or so! In fact the keyboard/mouse - everything freezes. The only answer is to push the reset button...

My Hardware set up is.

MESH PC
M/Board - ASUSTeK Computer INC. A7N8X2.0
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 2162 MHz
120 GB Maxtor HDD
1 GB RAM
RADEON 9800 PRO Graphics Card
SHARP 1280x1024 TFT Monitor
NVIDIA R nForce Audio

I have installed the ATI drivers for the Radeon 9800, but this makes no difference. It does seem to work fine with the VESA Drivers.

I have partitioned it to dual-boot. Windows (...I know...) then Mandrake. Mandrake fits in at about 45GB, so I boot with GRUB.

The installation of Mandrake is pretty standard, but I have managed to install the kernel with support for large memory (kernel-i686-up-4GB-2.4.22.10mdk) from the installation media. I have tried booting into linux, linux-enterprise and this 4GB one, all have the same problem.

Please can someone advise. I usually have 15 or 20 minutes to configure anything via the X interface, but the computer normaly doesn't freeze in run level 3...

Cheers
Steve

power throttling

Hey,

I had the same problem with a new machine a while back. It's not a OS issue, its likely the motherboard. Turn off power throttling in the bios.

Cheers for the reply.

How do you suppose this will affect the performance of the PC? I have yet to try it so I still don't know if it will work. I'm not sure what power throttling actually does!!

I do still need to use the 'other' OS still for some work tasks, will it affect it?

Cheers
Steve
