Angry problem with the " make " command

i have RH 9.0 and when i try to install a software using the commands

./configure
make

it gets stuck in the make commands saying

" cd src" not found even though the dir src is there and i can cd into it

what could be the problem

( this problem started after i upgraded to RH 9.0 from RH 8.0)

Upgrades often give problems (from reading this site) as earlier versions of Linux do things differently to later ones. Also, you end up upgrading earlier problems.

It may be worthwhile backing up your data and doing a clean install.
