Unhappy Major probs..please help!

Alright, i'm an extreme newbie to Linux so go easy on me with your explanations. I just installed Mandrake 8.1 and it sits there flashing over and over again then "Id X" times out or something for 5 minutes then it starts flashing again. I know this is an icompatibility with my Geforce 2 MX and I need to get the Linux drivers for it off the NVIDIA website.

Well..I've tried 5 times to configure my internet connection and so far I have gotten it wrong every single time. Also, is there a complete list of commands for Mandrake 8.1 out there? I don't even know how to execute a file let alone install anything. Lastly, could somebody please explain to me the exact process for setting up the net on my PC and what I should set, etc? I'm currently using ADSL as my internet connection.

Thanks so much for your time.

When you installed Mandrake did you select the appropriate connection type?

About installing programs and whatnot here are some useful commands from me 2 u.

tar zxf ------------------ Extracts the tarball into a directory named the filename.

sh -----------------------Runs shell scripts (*.sh)

rpm -Uvh ---------------Unpacks and installs RPM (RedHat Package Manager) programs. If you want you can add a --nodeps --replacepkgs or --replacefiles at the end of the -Uvh.

Those are a few, if you need more please ask!

Re

I have no problem doing it in Windows 2000 pro (using VMware to install and run Mandrake 8.1) but in Mandrake it asked me if I wanted to choose an ADSL connection or LAN. I chose ADSL because that's what I have. There are a few things I don't understand though and I have no clue where to get the info for them or how to transfer the connection from Win 2k over to Linux.

I know it's quite sad but hopefully somebody understands me enough to help :\
