mail broke -- ugh.

All of a sudden I cannot recieve mail -- even sent locally. Here is what I know:

I can telnet and login to dovecot

I can send mail with sendmail

I can do the following:
mail username
Subject: Test Message
Body: Testing Dovecot
[enter]
[enter]
.
[enter]

then I look at /var/spool/mail/username and it has all my old emails but none of the new ones

For the last several months my mail has been on a delay -- sometimes arriving hours after being sent. Now it never comes.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Moses

A little more information -- please help.

I found a bunch of these messages in var/log/maillog:

Nov 21 23:14:55 jackracklinux sendmail[4123]: NOQUEUE: SYSERR(root): opendaemonsocket: daemon MTA: cannot bind: Address already in use
Nov 21 23:14:55 jackracklinux sendmail[4123]: daemon MTA: problem creating SMTP socket

I'm not exactly sure what it means.

Also, possibly of consequence:

Today I discovered that people have been trying to hack into my system for months -- I'm not sure if they succeeded. I cut them off with my router's firewall.

Also, right before the email stopped working the computer crashed. I'm considering wiping out the whole system. Is that going to be necessary?
