Looking for a way to Share Home Partition among Distros
Hey! It's been a while since I have asked a question here, and I've learned a lot. But there has been one thing recently that I've been wanting to do. I want to set up a dual boot of Red Hat and Gentoo Linuces. I have 3 hard drives :-D so space is not a problem. I would, however, like to share application data and such between the two.
As such, I am thinking of making /home/ryan (my personal user's home directory) a separate 5GB partition. However, I have experienced problems with users not lining up right across distros before, and I was wondering will standard Unix file permissions mess this up for me.
If I make the user ID and name the same on both distros, will the permissions work correctly across distros?
It's a single user box, and I think currently I'll just make /home/ryan the partition instead of /home because it would be relatively easy to fix later if I want to change it.
