Looking for a "kindof" wiki-solution which will run on linux

I often have the need to quickly write something down and insert a picture or upload a file, just so I'll remember it for another time. An example could be when configuring Samba and if I want to save the config file along with some short instructions or "remember to"-notes.

I already tried different wikis, like mediawiki and dokuwiki, but I don't much like the way they work. At work I use Confluence which is nice, but not free.

What I was imagining was something like a simplified "private wiki". When opening the front page, I could just press "New post" or whatever, and I would get a editing window where i could choose a category for my post and write in all the information I want. I could then press 'Save' and it would get indexed in the chosen category and be easily available for me and what other members added through maybe a sidemenu or some kind of index.

I think theres something like that out there, but I don't know what to look or search for, which is why I'm asking here

...and ofcourse it would be nice if it could run on my debian box

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

IIRC, zim is a personal wiki, in the way that you describe. OTOH. I wasn't very fond of the way it works, so maybe it isn't quite what you are looking for...
