Looking for a good print queue

does anyone know of a print queue system that can resolve an IP/MAC address into like a kiosk/hostname? the reason being is so the desk assistant doesn't have to use a table when someone says they printed from 20D to lookup the IP or if someone doesn't know the name of the file printed

right now we have around 200 machines that need to share around 8 laser printers for a univ library, and are currently using Novell to do the network drive space and print queue. Can I replace Novell with some other combination of software like samba/CUPS? I have a fairly decent linux experience level but nowhere near that of many who might read this, thank you in advance

also is there a way to prevent documents from going straight to a printer and have a desk assistant specify which printer to send the job to?
as of now the printer (HP Laserjet 4 Plus) is working fine w/ both KDE and shared via samba on xp machines... but the document goes straight through to the printer... in samba's config i set the "cups options" to "raw -H hold" but it still doesn't seem to hold the document
