Lightbulb Linux Programming

I would like to learn more about Linux and its programming capabilities so I've decided to purchase a book on it all. My top choice is Wrox's Beginning Linux Programming. It is in my opinion that they make some of the best computer books out there (I already own two others).

Does anyone have any other books that may be better than this? Any input would be appreciated!

Do you mean Bash/shell programming, or simply writing C/other programs which use the linux environment?

Mostly Perl and CGI programming. I'd also like to learn a little more about the Linux environment as well and about shell stuff.

I started with Python. You can do a LOT of things (from command line and gui programs up to OpenGL or SDL programming), it's easy, it's fast, it's portable and it's probably already installed in your computer
