Linux Presentation

I work tech support for a copany that deals with e-mail and web browsing. I have to put a presentation of how similiar Linux programs are to Linux. Any ideas on how I should do this so I can add another type of support and bring Linux some more respect?

Well for starters, Linux programs work with Linux or they wouldn't be Linux programs..

They really don't want to hear it. They spend too much money training support for the different versions of windows products.

A good example of that is Outlook Express vs Outlook (as part of Office).

It is true that the perception of the general public--that any company which can advertise "Linux Support" must be filled with gurus--is a good thing. But, alas, in accounting that is an "intangible asset" and therefore worthless to "the bottom line".

You may be able to sell them on reimbursement for a single worker to attend "official" Linux administration courses at the local CC or Univ., but you will have to present a cost-vs-benefits for them to be able to tout "Linux Support services" (plus don't forget OS-X) in addition to what they currently provide.

Business is a numbers game. They don't support Apple/Mac do they? Although the number of Linux Desktop users is growing, it is still tiny in comparison even with Macintosh/Apple. Every minute of employee time has to be justified in any service-business for it to survive cost-cutting measures to improve "the bottom line".

The "Linux guy" will probably be the first one to lose his job.

similar how?, there linux programs that look and feel completely different form another linux program while they both do the same job, look at kde and gnome for example

so if similar is in look and feel, then id suggest you just say "they have , um , well it depends on the program ", if similar in what they can do, then why not make a table showing the differences and similarities from the different programs
