linux hangs on updatedb and network average load

Hi, I hane a Zyxel NSA310 storage with:
Linux nsa310 2.6.31.8 #2 Fri Aug 2 11:21:44 CST 2013 armv5tel GNU/Linux

root@NSA310:~# cat /proc/cpuinfo
Processor : Feroceon 88FR131 rev 1 (v5l)
BogoMIPS : 1199.30
Features : swp half thumb fastmult edsp
CPU implementer : 0x56
CPU architecture: 5TE
CPU variant : 0x2
CPU part : 0x131
CPU revision : 1

Hardware : Feroceon-KW
Revision : 0000
Serial : 0000000000000000

Sometimes my linux simply hangs and no longer responds. A scenorio of this kind is when running updatedb and meantime using winscp for editing some text files over the network. I would like to know how could I debug this; what log files should I read in order to learn about the problem.

Have you tried "dmesg" command? or "cat /var/log/syslog".
Or you may set the output for examining: "updatedb --output=/myoutput/file"

Or simply go verbose "updatedb --verbose" and throw the output into a file for further examining what it was doing until it hanged--

Quote:
updatedb -v >> /root/mydbupdate.txt
then to examine--

Quote:
less /root/mydbupdate.txt
Hope that helps.

Good luck.

Thanks, seems that findutils-4.4.2 was problematic with updatedb on my system. I installed the last version and for the moment seems ok. Nothing to do with the network as I feard too in the first place.
