Lightbulb Linux box as a surround sound receiver?

I want to connect my videogame system to a Dolby surround sound receiver capable of decoding Pro Logic II signals. I am thinking of a way to use my linux computer as a surround sound receiver. I would connect my videogame system's audio output to my computer's audio input. Then PC surround sound speakers would be connected to my computer.

By doing this I would not have to pay an extra 200 dollars on a home reciever that can potentially fry my PC speakers.

Note that I am looking for a way to decode Dolby Pro Logic II signals.

Can this be done? If so, how? I would greatly appreciate some help.

I believe that the Dolby is a function of whatever sound card you purchase.

There are certainly a lot of game quality 5.1 channel sound cards for computers as I'm sure that you know.

As far as I know all or almost all sound cards have a single channel low fidelity input for a single microphone. I haven't seen one that has a 5.1 channel external input.

At the end of the day I have never seen hardware that would do what you want.
