Linux and Robotics

Lately I have been reading up a lot about embedded Linux and other real-time versions of Linux that are being used in both amateur and enterprise level robots, among other neat devices. Now, I don't know about you, but Linux and robots are two of my favorite things in the world, and when they get together it's no wonder why it would be an awesome combination.

This leads to my question. Does anybody know where one might find some useful information such as...

a) Some sort of beginner's guide to the particular Linux/robotics combo
b) Where (if at all) cheap/simple robot parts can be purchased
c) A place where one might find drivers for obscure hardware

Now i'm sure I wont be building anything useful, but I kind of just want to play around with it and see what I can do. Anyone???

I thought about experimenting in this area but just have not found the time. Here is a link I have saved in my bookmarks.
http://servomaster.sourceforge.net/

You goto http://www.google.com/linux and type in robotics and see what links come up.

Good luck and have fun there.

One of my favourite websites:

They make and sell small embedded linux machines, small but powerful (400Mhz), starting at around $100 US and the size of a packet of chewing gum...

NOTE:

I've just checked the website, and there is a big new banner:

GUMSTIX GOES ROBOTIC!

Hope that helps!
