Ca i install a linux distro on a iMac ?

Can i shared files between them? Are they Filsystem compatible? Can i used my imac as a database server and retrieve info from it in linux and windows systems?

Answer to your first question is yes, though due to hardware differences between mac and pc, you'd need a distro specific to macintosh computers.
check out distrowatch.com to see if your preferred distro is available for PPC.

I don't have any experience networking mac-linux, so can't answer your other questions with certainty, but I do know there are tools available for mac-linux connection.
