Question LDAP Login Denial

I am using centos 7.2. when users try to login we get permission denied. we were able to make new user names to log in and sudo to see what the issue is. the log files say there is a failed password. the password is ldap'd. i tried changing the password for my original user name but got the error, System is Offline, Password unable to be changed. i have checked the passwd file, sudoers everything appears to be fine. any ideas? i know i must be missing something.
