LAN www host not working

just started my apache server for the first time running RH9.

when im on the RH box i can see 192.168.2.104/index.html with no problem, but when i try to access that address from any other computer in my LAN i get the following error.

sorry for such a newbie question, but im trying.

Connection closed by remote server

why should i get this error. to me that is saying the RH box does not like requests to its apache server unless it is local, and from what little i know about apache that should not be the default.

thank you for the time and help.

Most likely it's a firewall issue. The reason you can see that on your RH9 box is because you are actually viewing the index.html at localhost. Try turning off the firewall and check.

Facing the same problem... But don't know what changes I need to make so that I can access the server I have installed on my system (10.16.201.171) fromanother system on the LAN (say 10.16.201.174).

I tried to add 10.16.201.174 to "Listen" list, but then my 10.16.201.171/index.html didn't show up.

Hope someone can let me know how to disable the firewall?

i didnt have to disable the firewall, i just had to open port 80 on mine.

if you are using Gnome, then its main menu, system settings, firewall. just put a check in the WWW (port 80) box and save the changes. that should open up the port after stopping/restarting your IPTABLES automaticaly.

though the CLI, i have not the foggiest clue other then looking up some fo the iptable code lines, but from what i remember looking back on them a year or so ago, that should not be to hard to figure out for anyone with basic coding skills using gedit or vi/vim

Well, I use gnome, but I don't see "firewall option inthe system settings/

So how can I open port 80?

Done!!! Well, the opening of port option was located in system settings/security level

Now I am able to access the 10.16.201.171/index.html from other systems on the LAN.

Thank u Lleb_KCir
