Knoppix boot problems

I recently added a router to my system. That is the only thing that I have done in the past month or so. Knoppix (running on my hard drive) was running great and minus the configuration of the Linksys, no other changes were made. Now, when I log into Knoppix, I do not have access to use the keyboard (can't type in the username or password) and the cursor leaves trails everywhere. I'm presently using a Knoppix boot CD and it works great with no problems. Are my configuration files messed up? I'm not afraid to tweak the configuration files but I am a newbie to Linux. Can you tell me what configuration files load when Knoppix is booted? I did check and I am setup with the English keyboard (which is what I want).

I really appreciate any help.

If I use the Knoppix boot CD can I somehow reconfigure the configuration files without messing up anything
else on the hard drive?
