kernel compiling

what do you need to download, where to download it and how do you compile the latest kernel so that it works on your box?

also, what's the difference if i just simply upgrade from RH7.1 to RH7.2? will it give me the option to select a kernel upgrade or even do it automatically for me(assuming a new stable kernel release is available on the distro)?

and pardon my burgeoning ignorance, but is the latest file format is ext3 now?

You can get a list of mirrors from http://www.kernel.org/mirrors/. If you do a search on this site there is a good step by step walkthru of installing a new kernel. When the new FAQ system is in place this will surly be one of the first additions. As far as ext3 goes it is the default for RH 7.2, not a "kernel" default.
