Ownage of devices in PAM-aware distrs is AFAIK handled in /etc/security/console.perms. If you login, and you're the first one, devices get chowned to your loginname. When you log out they get chowned back to defaults.

This solution works when users log on and off.

However , upon rebooting the machine the permissions are reset back.

Any more suggesstions would be appreciated.

Angry

still not found anything.

Can anyone shed any light on my problem????

I have to be able to turn my computer off, the constant whirling of fans makes it impossible to sleep.

I am to lazy to reset permissions everyday. Perhaps a script run at start up could help???

i guess i have fixed it..

change the entry
<console> 0600 <sound> 0600 root.audio
to
<console> 0660 <sound> 0660 root.audio

in /etc/security/console.perms
replace audio with sys if you want the group to be sys.
