I have upgraded KDE several times over the last 3 years. Normally I wouldn't bother with a small increment like 3.1.1 to 3.1.3 but I want to get rid of some annoying bugs in 3.1.1 so I will make this upgrade.

KDE 3.1.1 and KDE 3.1.3 are close enough togather that you can probably get through a transition stage OK where you have a mixture of 3.1.1 and 3.1.3.

I am downloading 3.1.3 now. When I get it all downloaded then I will make a list of what 3.1.1 packages I have installed (including the arts, libs, qt, etc) and then replace them individually with the equivalent 3.1.3 package. I will use rpm -U <package-file>

If you do not want to do the individual installs RedHat has an automated installer similar to Debian's apt-get. I have never tried it or SuSE's version because I am quite comfortable with upgrading by hand.

Hi,

I did a similar thing.
Put them all together in a separate directory.
su to root
rpm -Uhv *.rpm

That's it
It is actually better to do them all together because rpm will look into the other rpm's it is supposed to install to solve dependency problems. Unless you happen to know the exact individual order in which they should be installed of course...
I did however install the packages from Base first.
Your upgrade is so close to the original that other libs and stuff probably won't bother. If they do, just add their new rpm's to the list.

Cheers,
Jan
