I was fooling around with the settings in hdparm and was doing pretty good until I did this:
#root# hdparm -d1 /dev/hdx
I had multicount (already set to -m16 by MDK) and 32-bit I/O working alright(hdparm -c3 /dev/hdx)
But after I enabled DMA(-d1) and ran the benchmarks
(-Tt /dev/hdx)my system locked up and I couldnt shutdown! Is there a way I could get out of this other than a hard shutdown(which is what I ended up doing)?I tried a alt-f3 etc,but no go.TIA

I don't think there's another way. If you mess with HD params it might be a good idea to boot with a floppy or at least deactivate your swap and mount you filesystems ro.
