JDK 1.4 and Russian keyboard

I have Linux RH9 installed with default Russian keyboard. Everything worked fine until I tried some Java applications. I can enter lower and upper case cyrillic letter without problem, however when I switch to Latin (Rshift-Lshift), I can enter only capital letters (pressing shift or CAPS lock). Ctrl-V and Ctrl-C do not work, so I can't even to enter something using clipboard. Where could be a problem, in keyboard driver or Java runtime? Maybe somebody knows how to cure?
