Java installation on Linux (redhat 7.2)

hi

i'd like to know the steps to be followed in installing JDK
on my linux machine (im using redhat 7.2). i tried installing it once
but ,when i typed "javac" at the command prompt , i had a segmentation fault. i need technical guidance please

Hi!
I guess that you have installed the JDK RPM package from Sun.
After that you must modify your /etc/profile or ~/.bash_profile file by adding
PATH=..../bin:$PATH
JDK_HOME=...,
where .... is path to your JDK installation (something like /usr/java/....).

export PATH JDK_HOME

But I think there is problem with the Sun JDK which sometimes crashes with some versions of glibc so I suggest you to use IBM JDK.

Where in /etc/profile do I add the /usr/java/j2re1.4.1_04/plugin/i386/ns4
and do I add all of " /usr/java/j2re1.4.1_04 "?
