Is there an equivalent to the resize command in linux mint 14?

I have an application that use to call the resize command to update the TERMCAP varible with the current number of rows and columns of the terminal I'm working in. Resize has now be removed and I was wondering if there was another way to do this?

Regards

There are only partial workarounds.
resize is part of the xterm package.
