Is it possible that you can set up syntax highlighting for gedit?

I did try to use jEdit, but it seems that gedit is faster and simple, unfortunately it does not have syntax highlighting, at least not for Java program, so is it possible to set up that? Thanks for reply in advance.

Don't know about gedit, but have you tried Kate? It works great re syntax highlighting and is the usual choice for creating/editing source code in linux for many.

Newer versions of gedit do have syntax highlighting for java and som other languages.
Another gtk2 text editor is SciTe, it's my first choice for the moment.

gtk2 seems not free.
Kate looks good, I will get it a try.
